Choosing between a mini session and a full session can feel surprisingly complicated. Both options give you beautiful photographs, but they offer very different experiences.
A mini session is quick, simple, and planned around a set location. A full session gives you more freedom, variety, and control from beginning to end.
Your best choice depends on what you want to remember. It also depends on how relaxed and personalized you want your experience to feel.
The Biggest Differences Between the Two Sessions
The most obvious difference is the amount of time you receive. My mini sessions last 20 minutes, while full sessions offer up to one hour.
Twenty minutes can work well when you only need a small collection of updated photographs. You arrive, we start shooting, and we keep everything moving.
That shorter timeline also means we have less room for unexpected moments. A shy child, wardrobe problem, or snack break can quickly use valuable time.
A full session gives everyone more breathing room. You can settle in without feeling like every minute must produce the perfect photograph.
We can begin with a few traditional portraits before moving into more playful photographs. You receive both familiar favourites and genuine moments together.
Full sessions also give us more time to get to know each other. That time can make a noticeable difference in your photographs.
You may need a few minutes to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Honestly, most people do.
Your children might also need time to understand that I am not scary. I am simply following them around with a camera.
Once everyone relaxes, personalities begin appearing naturally. Those expressions often become the photographs you love most.
More Time Creates More Opportunities
A full session gives us opportunities that are difficult to fit inside 20 minutes. We can create variety without rushing from one idea to another.
You can choose multiple nearby locations when the area allows it. We might begin near the water before walking toward trees, fields, or another backdrop.
Even a small change in location can make your gallery feel more complete. You receive different colours, lighting, scenery, and moods within one session.
You can also bring a second outfit for greater variety. Your first look might feel polished, while your second feels relaxed and casual.
Couples can use this opportunity for two different styles. You could wear dressier clothing first, then change into something comfortable and familiar.
Families can also plan wardrobe changes around their priorities. You might choose coordinated outfits before adding something playful for your children.
That flexibility is especially helpful when you want photographs for several purposes. You may need wall art, gifts, announcements, and updated profile photographs.
We can also capture more combinations during a full session. You are not limited to a few group photographs before time disappears.
Parents can take photographs together without the children. Each parent can also have individual photographs with each child.
Siblings can have their own moment, and children can receive individual portraits. Nobody needs to disappear from the story because time ran short.
You may even discover combinations you had not considered before arriving. Extra time allows those ideas to happen naturally.

You Choose the Photographs You Love
The gallery experience is another important difference between my mini and full sessions. It affects how much choice you have after your photographs are taken.
With a mini session, I select the 20 included photographs for you. You receive a finished collection without reviewing the unedited options first.
I carefully choose strong photographs that represent your session. However, my favourite expression might not be the moment that feels most meaningful to you.
Perhaps your child makes a certain smile that reminds you of someone special. Maybe you prefer the photograph where everyone looks relaxed instead.
When you book a full session, you get to choose the 30 photographs I edit. You review the available options and select the moments you love most.
That choice makes your final gallery feel more personal. You are not leaving those meaningful decisions entirely in someone else’s hands.
You might choose the photograph with the biggest smiles. You might prefer the quieter image where your child is holding your hand.
There is no wrong answer because the photographs belong to your memories. You know which expressions and connections feel most like your family.
If you love more than 30 photographs, you can purchase additional edits. You will not have to leave a favourite behind simply because it missed the limit.
This option gives you control over your final collection. It also prevents you from paying for extra photographs unless you genuinely want them.
Your Family Can Relax Into the Experience
Children rarely become comfortable on command. Sometimes they need to explore, ask questions, or decide whether my camera deserves their cooperation.
A full session gives them that adjustment time. We can begin slowly instead of expecting perfect smiles within the first two minutes.
Your children can move, play, and take short breaks when needed. We can follow their energy instead of fighting against it.
If someone needs a snack, we can pause. If a toddler needs reassurance, you can provide it without watching the clock.
This relaxed approach also helps parents. You do not need to panic when your child suddenly decides photographs are deeply offensive.
We can change activities, try a new prompt, or move somewhere interesting. A difficult five minutes does not define your entire session.
Couples benefit from the extra time too. You can get comfortable with direction before we move toward more natural interactions.
You never need to arrive knowing how to pose. I guide you through movement and prompts while giving you space to be yourselves.
As the session continues, you usually think less about the camera. That is when your genuine connection becomes much easier to photograph.
Matching Your Session to Your Priorities
Mini sessions still have their place. They can be useful when you need a quick update or prefer a shorter commitment.
However, a mini session is designed to be efficient. It cannot offer the same flexibility, variety, or personalization as a full session.
A full session makes sense when your photographs represent something important. It works beautifully for families, couples, maternity photographs, anniversaries, or meaningful milestones.
It is also the stronger option when you want more than one classic group photograph. You receive space for different relationships, personalities, and connections.
Think about what you want your final gallery to include. Consider who needs photographs together and how much variety matters to you.
You should also consider how your children respond to new people. A slower experience may help them feel comfortable and act naturally.
If choosing your own photographs matters, a full session gives you that control. You decide which 25 memories become part of your edited gallery.
The question is not only whether you need 20 minutes or one hour. The real question is what you want that time to create.
A full session lets us slow down and explore more possibilities. You receive a gallery shaped around your family, priorities, and favourite moments.
You are not simply booking additional time. You are creating more opportunities to preserve photographs that genuinely feel like you.
